Krista MacKinnon

Krista is an eclectic hobbyist, passionate about art, mothering her two boys, photography, writing, knitting, and mental health recovery. At 16 she was hospitalized after experiencing mania and psychosis and was given the impression that she would always have to struggle with a disorder called “manic depression” (now usually referred to as Bipolar). Against the general messages she received about herself from doctors, society and family she decided to ignore the diagnosis, not believing any of it.

She has lived a healthy and mostly medication free life since, finding her own meaning in the experience of psychosis and finding alternative forms of support elsewhere for maintaining her wellness.

Now Krista puts her heart in mental health, supporting families in understanding the many ways they can be helpful to someone they love when psychosis and mental health issues and labeling has affected the family.
